Agreed. Burning Catholics seems much more of a tradition worth following while lobbing around mini explosives. In general burning things is better than spraying the hedge with plastic.

Guy Fawkes is much better, celebrating your sectarian and bigotted past is where it is at.

Mr Anon

I guess another way to look at it is. Just because something came from America does not mean it will not be traditionally British at some point.

Branded brought up "Bubbles" which is American but traditionally West Ham now.

Mr Anon 3:30 Fri Nov 1

It is a lot read I know but that is the point I was making.

We think of things as traditional when they were around through our lifetime. In the history of Christmas and festivals that it came from, that 400 years is only a portion. They were as new American Halloween, at one point and they certainly were not a part of Christmas for their early history in England.

West Ham United is "traditional" to us but when it was formed people were celebrating All Hallows Eve and Day in the UK.

"you are literally incapable of logical argument"

Literally? What is a logical argument to you and how have I shown myself incapable?

A group of sentences without evidence, as you have set forth there is, is not a logical argument to me. You have made a point, you now need to demonstrate it.

Fortunately for me, your opinion is not shared by the people that pay me to do what I enjoy doing nor those that allowed me to come to England and live and see West Ham more than once in my lifetime.

I am willing to discuss how I am incapable but the evidence is stacked so far against it and you would need to be more than words on the internet for me to really care.

"Probably but a lot of the British "traditions" are American if you think about it. (And obviously vice-versa).

Potatoes a part of your Christmas meal?"

That's by far the most stretched I've seen an argument. Spuds with your Christmas dinner is an imported tradition as they've only been here 400 odd years. Fucking hell Canada, using your logic nothing is a British Christmas tradition.

Re: Halloween is bollocks
Or the alternative explanation Irons is that you are literally incapable of logical argument and after a while when that becomes obvious then people realise the futility of having a sensible conversation and therefore decide it's no less redundant to just take the piss. That's particularly an attractive option in the case of someone with a remarkable sense of self importance and lack of self awareness.

That or your theory is correct on why people respond in this manner.

Never been to a quiz night Branded, I tend enjoy football or other sports with friends, and my wife's company most evenings. Some cultural stuff with people we know, I guess as well, though that has died down lately and from living more rural.

But to the point - how are quiz nights?

Mate, I am up for learning and part of that is being proved wrong. I just need evidence for that. I would love to hear some.

I don't see a lot of holes, people put up erroneous information, which I know is erroneous from years of work, I point that out.

There is no judge to decide who wins a debate here, it is pointless. But a good indication is when people spend time debating on here and then suddenly stop and start insulting, it usually means they don't think their point is very strong.

I do have time today, thanks for noticing, done most of the work I needed to do for the week and having a discussion with a few different people. I also have the advantage of being able to post and do parts of my job at the same time. Earlier this week and last, not the case.

(Other than being wrong about music industry numbers, as I was, I am not familiar with your work on here. I do apologize. PS. Do you think post about me specifically is more or less interesting than the other content on this board?)

Fifth Column 2:59 Fri Nov 1
Re: Halloween is bollocks
The "evidence" is in everything you write. You see yourself as someone with amazing knowledge and debating skills but when people point out the massive holes in your knowledge and logic you just move the goalposts.

Fifth Column 1:12 Fri Nov 1

Interesting idea, but if you were trying to argue with what I said, you will need more evidence.
